About Us

Vediconcepts is an initiative dedicated to advancing the cause of Gurukul education vis a vis current schooling system. Our mission encompasses facilitating connections between students and Gurukuls, aiding in the formulation of curricula tailored for Gurukuls, and establishing new Gurukul institutions.

What is Vediconcepts?

Vediconcepts as you might have guessed already is made up of two words Vedic + Concepts. We endeavor to bring the Vedic worldview forward that has been absent for quite some time now. Since 1835 with the introduction of “Minutes of Education” and the gradual shutting down of the Gurukul system, the study of the Vedic knowledge system has been out of fashion.

We, at Vediconcepts, think that the Vedic worldview can broaden our outlook and can change our approach. We are advancing this mission by actively promoting Gurukul education and facilitating the establishment of numerous Gurukuls throughout India.

Why are we doing this?

Problem

Whatever we know about Hinduism nowadays is from the point of view of cultural outsiders i.e. mostly Western scholars. As a cultural outsider, it is quite hard to understand the connotations and subtle meanings attached to the traditions of a different culture than yours. Any outsider is bound to make mistakes while Interpreting other cultures’ traditions.

But this has exactly been the case with Hinduism and India for quite some time now. It has been interpreted by scholars who were alien to the terminology as well as the culture of India.

Scholars like Ralph T.H. Griffith, John Muir, and Max Muller all were Western as well as working on their stated agenda of converting the heathens to Christianity. Many scholarships like Boden Sanskrit professorship scholarships were established with the stated aim “to assist in the conversion of the people of India to Christianity” (Source: wikipedia.org)

Earlier Hindu scholars like Acharya Sayana, and Acharya Mahidhar whose commentaries were used as reference guides by most European Indologists. Their commentaries on Vedas were, at places, quite out of context and wrong. An intelligent guess would be, that the European scholars did cherry-pick knowingly so that they could make Indians hate their most revered heritage i.e. Vedas.

We can not point fingers at others only. Sayana’s commentaries preserved later Indian understanding of Vedas. It clearly shows how distorted it had become from the earlier Vedic periods.

Solution

A research-based scholarship that takes a refreshing look at Hindu literature without the baggage of traditions and free from the shackles of the colonial mindset. Vediconcepts is a kind of project that will take scientific and utilitarian interpretations of Hinduism.

This can be achieved by promoting Gurukul education by setting up more and more Gurukul.

How do we do this?

Vediconcepts stated objectives are:

  • Setting up of gurukuls
  • Help in the administration of the gurukuls
  • Designing the curriculum
  • Provide training to the acharyas

Who are We?

A dedicated team comprising professionals, researchers, college students, and even high schoolers has collaborated to develop a reliable resource focused on promoting Gurukul education. The motivation behind curating this resource stems from the dearth of online resources about Gurukuls. Vediconcepts aspires to fill this void, positioning itself as the go-to resource for anyone keen on delving deeper into Gurukul education.

Many online materials tend to present mere opinions or popular narratives, Vediconcepts differentiates itself by championing a research-driven approach. This ensures that users have access to substantiated and nuanced insights.
