How long is Kali Yuga?

Yuga theory of Hinduism is very confusing one to say the least. It has different meaning depending on the context but the one we’ll discuss in this blog post will be the one that talks about a specified time period whose length sometimes is given as 5 years, 1200 years, or 4,32,000 years.

Yuga

Yuga is directly related to calendar. It is used for calendar precision i.e. to make correction to the luni-solar calendar.

Before writings of Mayasura’s Surya Siddhanta in 6778 BCE, Yuga had the length of 5 years. But for precision in calender, Yuga length was increased to 1200 years which was later updated to 4,32,000 [1200 x 360] years (after Mahabharata war).
